Yes, really. I saw this on CupcakeProject and went "OMG BEST IDEA EVER"
As it turns out, I was WRONG about that. The frosting is most definately the worst idea ever. SRSLY. Not good. Comments include:
"It's not as disgusting as I imagined?"
"Wow, that's awful"
and from me: "This is the worst thing I have ever done"
I made six, cos I knew they wouldn't be super popular. The cake bit, I have to say, was good. Perfect Salty/Sweet, nice texture, everything about it was nice. I would consider making them again.
The icing, though. I feel like I need to repent.
The inspiration recipe is here
Cupcakes (6)
1/4 cup beer
1/4 teaspoon vinegar
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon oil
1/3 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons ground beef
Combine the beer and the vinegar. Add in the sugar and oil, whisk vigorously. Gently introduce the flour along with the baking soda, being careful not to over mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 min.
Icing
1/2 package cream cheese
butter
powdered sugar
1/4 candied cabbage (Cabbage + Brown sugar + Oven = Candied Cabbage)
Mix together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar. Add cabbage.
Someone suggested pureeing the cabbage, but I honestly don't think it would have helped.
This is new.

I'm still trying to figure out what horrible crime I committed to be put through that icing....
Cake was great.
Icing? As another victim put it.. a unique culinary experience.
Do. Not. Eat. That. Icing.
I'm not sure where its been.
Brina's expression, however, was priceless. Had I had a camera, I would have immortalized her agony as she tasted her creation.
Cabbage does not belong anywhere near a cupcake. Oh no. No where near it.
Whoever came up with this idea, then spread it around as a recipe, should probably be put into a straight jacket. When it was all said and done, it looked like someone puked up mashed tatters and cabbage and was yuck.
Thankfully, someone had corned beef to remove the flavor of candied cabbage from my mouth.
*nod*
The cake? Really really good. Would eat that again. A lot.
But not with cabbage. Ever.
I would have posted earlier, but I was busy bleaching my mouth, trying to get rid of the taste. The taste is gone, but the memory will be harder to erase.
I would not care to repeat the experience of these cupcakes!!
ummm... Glad you liked the cake. At least I didn't claim the cupcakes were amazing or anything like that so I don't feel that bad. I like most of my cupcakes, so if I'm not a fan, they are probably not that good. However, some people actaully did like them. Maybe they were talking only about the cake though?
I'm a bit scared of Becca. I don't want to be put in a straight jacket.
Stef - The cake bit was really good! I'm going to try your beef & cheese ones as well. Hopefully Becca won't be as offended by them. She's reasonably harmless, though I did fear for my life a bit at lunch.
A thought occurred to me today - MUSTARD frosting! When I remake them, I will give that a whirl!
Oooh.. mustard frosting is a GREAT idea! That would be fantastic.
If you make the beer and cheese ones, do make the frosting. The frosting on those is really tasty. I will tell you that one of my friends made those cupcakes for a party and she said people were having 2 and 3 of them. Hope your friends like them too.
